One thing I always look forward to is our Valentine’s Day spent together. I always get excited for a date night and spending quality time with T amidst our jam packed schedules. The past three years on Valentine’s Day, T has surprised me with going to a restaurant for a special date night. It has become the tradition now where I won’t know where we are going until we arrive! It has also become a guessing game until the very moment. This year I was completely shocked when we entered Cafe Mattise. I had never been there before but heard incredible reviews. T kept asking me as we parked, “Do you know where we are going yet?”, but I honestly had no idea – from the front you can barely tell it is a restaurant! I must say that out of all the restaurants we have been to, this may have been the best …EVER! The food there is absolutely stellar and the ambiance was perfect. We had the 4-course tasting. We each picked a few of the savory courses from a list of around 12. A few of our favorites were the Lobster, Sushi Tuna “Satay”, the Crab Cake with Cheddar Glazed Shrimp, and the Pan Roasted Day Boat Scallop. This Eclectic restaurant hidden in the town of Rutherford, offered a great mix of flavors and textures and was seriously outstanding in every way.
